A Florida man was arrested for making threats against a public official.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement, with the assistance of the Boca Raton Police Department, arrested 25-year-old Luke David Schlauder, of Boca Raton, on one count of intimidation and threat to kill or cause bodily harm and one count of use of a two-way communication device to facilitate a felony.
FDLE Miami agents received information in October from FDLE Capitol Police that an individual, later identified as Schlauder, left a voicemail containing explicit death threats against a Florida state representative. The investigation revealed Schlauder left voicemails on three separate occasions including violent threats, as well as hostile racial slurs.
FDLE agents arrested Luke Schlauder and transported him to the Palm Beach County jail.
“Threats against public servants should concern all of us, whatever our politics,” the Republican Party of Palm Beach County posted. “Florida state Rep. Peggy Gossett-Seidman (District 91) says she feared for her life and her staff’s safety after allegedly receiving threatening voicemails at her office.”
Florida State Representative Peggy Gossett-Seidman represents District 91 which includes Highland Beach and Boca Raton in South Florida. She shared the local Republican Party’s post about the incident.
“Whatever your party, you can disagree with an elected official, vote against them, and tell them so. Threatening violence is not part of that. When people in public office, or their staff, fear for their safety, fewer good people will be willing to serve, and our whole community loses,” the Republican Party of Palm Beach County posted. “If you have a concern with an elected official’s office, call, write, show up at a public meeting, and vote. And if you ever receive or witness a threat, report it to law enforcement.”
The Office of the State Attorney of the 15th Judicial Circuit is prosecuting the case. The investigation remains active, according to law enforcement.
